After using a touch screens for the past year, I never want to go back to a phone with limited screen size. Between using my iPod touch, BlackBerry Storm, and Droid, I have had the user experience of a lifetime adapting nuances of different devices. Moto Development group created a great way for users to test touch screen performance. The best way to test the touch screen response is to move your finger in a slow, steady motion diagonally across the screen while running a drawing app. I did the test using the “Draw!” app with my Motorola Droid and the results were very telling why I always mistype on the touch screen keyboard.

Example of my test results

The wave in the line I drew was caused by approximation lag. When moving my finger along the screen, the line would take about half of a second to catch up to my finger’s actual location.

Check out Moto’s video on how to test your touch screen. Moto shows results for iPhone, Nexus One, Palm Pre, and BlackBerry Storm2.
