It’s hard to believe that the App gold rush for phones began less than three years ago with the Apple App store launching in July 2008 with 500 apps total. The Apple App Store as of October has over 300,000 applications available for download and over 7 million downloads total. Apps become a central point of the smart phone experience and continues to expand into app enabled devices. App enabled devices are going to be a central point at this year’s CES.
The MFi program has allowed consumer electronics OEMs to expand the interaction of their gadgets into user’s phones and let users’ have greater control over the gadget. This allows users to not change and customize how their new gadget works but allows 3rd party developers to modify the user experience for specific use cases.
