The energy is high and your heart is pounding. The only thing standing in your way between you and infinite glory is 220 grams (at least) of plastic and silicon. You go for the wind up. There is a collective gasp of anticipation behind you as the crowd looks on in rigid awe. Your arm flies over your shoulder and release that old crappy thing you’ve been meaning to recycle. It rockets into the air. Cue ESPN intro!
The Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships have been held in Finland since their creation in 2000 and has spawned similar tournaments across the globe. Traditionally, each contestant does an over-the-shoulder throw and tries to throw the phone as far as they can. In fact, the world record is currently 95.83 m. That’s ridiculous! They should attach a Phone Halo to keep track of each of these phones if they ever plan on finding them again. All sports drama aside, it’s seems like an effective, fun way for people to recycle their old phones.
