The Phone Halo mechanical design process
During the design process, the constraints for the casing were size and strength. The device needed to carry a gallon of milk without being bulky or obtrusive in shape. Strength and size create a tricky mechanical design problem. Choosing the right material was the first step. After lots of simulations and testing different designs, the optimal strength vs. shape was chosen. A few prototype runs later, an injection mold was made. After adjusting the injection molding process, the final design was ready.
The final design shown in the picture above holding 8 lbs. (or 1 gallon of water).
