5 Reasons Why to Not Outsource Product Development
At Phone Halo we really do believe in making all of our own products. We have designed our product completely in house (meaning the founders). Making a product was an incredible experience and I see a lot of entrepreneurs outsourcing products. I see this as basically buying products to resale. It’s gotten so common it’s like entrepreneurs going to the grocery store. This seems to me that entrepreneurs are becoming disconnected from a lot of the process of making products and keeping products high quality. Here are 5 reasons why to build your own products:
- If You Want Something Done Right, You Have To Do It Yourself – The only way to ensure your product is at the highest quality standards is to build it yourself. Nothing beats a dedicated entrepreneur’s attention to detail and focus on the user experience.
- Revelations at Midnight are Easily Implemented – I cannot count the number of times we were sitting in the lab and at around 1am, we had a break through idea. If we weren’t building the product ourselves, it would be costly and nearly impossible to incorporate all these small innovations that add up.
- Ability to Fine Tune – A product when its first made is never perfect. It takes a lot of beta testing. We had phone halo done in December but we had 200 beta testers, testing the product, giving us feedback, telling us how to make it perfect. Without in house engineering, this process is too often ignored.
- Cost – I work for free. My time is cheap.
- Sheer Joy – Nothing is better than making something that people around the world write about. People discuss. And hopefully people buy.
We don’t shop out our products and everything is built in house by us. I hope you do the same.
